Google will transform completely over to mobile-first indexing by September 2020

Google has said recently 70% of sites shown in search have already been switched over.

Recently, Google has announced that by September 2020 all sites will be crawled and indexed by Google using mobile-first indexing. Most of the Digital Marketing Agencies in Mumbai started to work on this.

September 2020. Google said, “To make it easy, we’ll be switching to mobile-first indexing for all websites starting September 2020.” Most sites have moved over as of now and you can check if your site has moved over by signing in to Google Search Console.

70% moved over as of now. “From our analysis, most sites shown in search results are good to move for mobile-first indexing, and 70% of those shown in our search results have already shifted over,” Google said. So chances are, your site has just moved over to mobile-first indexing.

Years in the making. Google began the mobile-first indexing process in 2016. Google has been working so far for nearly four-years now. We have had a lot of time to get prepared for this and it should not shock anyone here.

Take note. If your site was not moved over yet, you may have already gotten a notice from Google with more information. Here is an example with a screenshot of a notice:

Why do we care? Currently, it is in September 2020. If you get one of these notifications it is likely a notification you should read and take action on. If Google has issues with accessing your website with the mobile-crawler, then at that point  it might affect your indexing and ranking of your web pages in Google.
